Guide to the Chateau

We bought our Normandy holiday château from the former mayor of Tourgéville, in 1989. He had cared for the château, although with the passage of time, there was much to do. His son succeeded him as Mayor, for three terms of office, although we now have a Monsieur Van Collen as Mayor, a real action man. Incidentally, after retiring as Mayor, the original owner's son came to tea one afternoon. Vividly relating what it was like to be a young person living in Château de Tourgéville, at the same time the German Forces requisitioned the house as a sort of resting place, for wounded German soldiers. The tales were fascinating. He was about 18 then and along with the sudden foreign guests, his parents had 13 children, probably a good idea that he joined the Canadian Army to get some peace. He was pleased to see his home restored, we hope you will feel the same.

Chateau Holiday Facilities

Furnishing a holiday château calls for a balance that we have tried to achieve. Château de Tourgéville was never meant to be a museum, more to provide an elegant but comfortable holiday home for our guests. We have enjoyed blending Normandy tradition with home comforts and believe the result is satisfying.
