Normandy Memories
We hope you enjoyed the Norman countryside, photographed by a local enthusiast and shown in tune with the unnoficial Normandy anthem, Ma Normandie. A song written by Frédéric Bérat in 1836, mainly for his family, although the song has since been sung by children and adults worldwide. He captured the enchantment of the region in a lilting tune and simple, yet heartfelt lyrics:
The Light in Normandy
A Norman resident's appreciation of the light his region offers is no surprise. Artists from all over France and beyond have welcomed this for centuries, we have come to understand why on our holidays at the chateau. The pleasant Normandy microclimate is a factor but there are elements beyond this.
The influence of the Gulf Stream mellowed by the Cherbourg peninsula and English Channel, rolling hills beyond the coast. They join together to create a light you can not find elsewhere, if you suddenly awoke in Normandy without being aware of arriving there, you would know where you were.
The Seasons of Normandy
With the sunlight and temperate climate, tempting to think the seasons roll into one but thankfully they are quite distinctive. Summer is naturally a popular choice at our holiday chateau, with warm beaches and every village in flower, although there is much to be said for a cosy log fire in winter, or witnessing the birth of Spring.
We took the decision to leave the chateau open all year to ensure a comfortable base for any guests wishing to find the shared experience of Normandy. Not only coast and countryside but month to month as nature and the subtly changing light work their magic. We would love to hear from you if you might enjoy being under that spell.
